The shortlist for the 2017 Independent Bookshop Week Book Awards has just been announced and is packed with gorgeous picture book choices for children:

Odd Dog Out – Rob Biddulph

The Storm Whale in Winter – Benji Davies

The Detective Dog – Julia Donaldson & Sara Ogilvie

The Covers of My Book Are Too Far Apart! – Vivian French; illustrated by Nigel Baines

Oi Dog! – Kes Gray and Claire Gray; illustrated by Jim Field

Tidy – Emily Gravett

The Darkest Dark – Chris Hadfield; illustrated by The Fan Brothers

Are You Sitting Comfortably? – Leigh Hodgkinson

Fantastically Great Women Who Changed The World – Kate Pankhurst

There’s a Tiger in the Garden – Lizzy Stewart

Bee: Nature’s Tiny Miracle – Britta Teckentrup

A Beginner’s Guide to Bear Spotting – Michelle Robinson; illustrated by David Roberts

The winner will be announced on 23 June, at the start of Independent Bookshop Week, which is part of the Books Are My Bag campaign and celebrates independent stores across the UK.

The previous winners of this category are Stanley the Amazing Knitting Cat by Emily MacKenzie, A Walk in Paris by Salvatore Rubbino, and A First Book of Nature by Nicola Davies, illustrated by Mark Hearld.
