Give a child in care the gift of a book this Christmas

BookTrust is asking people to donate £10 to give some of the country’s neediest children receive a book this Christmas.

The reading charity wants to surprise the 9,700 foster children who are part of its Letterbox Club with an extra gift.

The Letterbox Club sees parcels sent out to kids in care every month between May and October annually.

The deliveries include books, maths games and stationary, to inspire a love of literacy and numeracy.

For many, it will be the first time they have had a letter or parcel through the post. For some, these are the first books they have owned.

BookTrust has selected six hardback books for three to 13 year olds for their Christmas gift, including the delightful Three Little Owls by Quentin Blake.

Each child will also receive a special festive poster and a postcard by illustrator Adam Stower.
