When I was growing up, my mum was the queen of a homemade costume.
I remember an excellent butterfly complete with wings, a Pinocchio and a particularly impressive Esmerelda the caterpillar for the Ugly Bug Ball.
I’m hoping to channel her creativity for World Book Day this year.
However, we are moving house that day (in fact, moving to a house 200 miles away…) so my good intentions might fall by the wayside as 1 March approaches.
Thankfully, I spotted a vast selection of book-themed children’s clothes in my local Sainsbury’s a few days ago.
The supermarket has been stocking Gruffalo-branded kidswear for quite a while but now they have Elmer, Mr Men and The Very Hungry Caterpillar too.
They range in size from newborn up to preschool and are super cheap. I picked up a cute Elmer t-shirt for Baby Bookworm for just £4.
A quick investigation of the website revealed a big range of World Book Day costumes too, including Gangsta Granny, The Gruffalo, Peter Rabbit, Elmer, Harry Potter and even the BFG, complete with ears!
Most are available in ages 3-10 but a few start smaller and go bigger. Best of all, they are priced at about £15-17 – and there’s 25 per cent off until the end of Monday.
